Following a rockslide on the Gotthard line, the geo-radar system used to track rock movement has provided some preliminary results: the cliff face remains intact but must remain under surveillance as there is still a risk of landslips. The Gotthard line remains closed to traffic until work has been completed to monitor and secure the site, clear away debris and restore the area to normal. The work is expected to take approximately one month.
Railway operations remain the same. Customers travelling from Basel, Olten and Aarau have been advised to take trains going via Bern-Brig-Simplon. Those leaving from Zurich and Lucerne can take the train to Flüelen and transfer to buses to get to Göschenen, but can expect to arrive at their destinations up to 90 minutes later than usual. Goods trains have also been diverted.
