The President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic Mario Monti unveiled a full-size mock-up of Trenitalia’s next generation of high speed trains at the ‘Rimini Meeting’ summer festival in August.

Mario Monti was accompanied by the Chairman and the Director General of FS Group Lamberto Cardia and Mauro Moretti, as well as Vincenzo Soprano, CEO of Trenitalia and Michele Mario Elia, CEO of the Italian Railway Network (RFI).

The unveiling of the Frecciarossa 1000, commissioned in the shape of 50 ETR1000 trainsets for an investment of around Euro 1.5 billion, was celebrated with a toast of good wishes.

Concerning its specifications, the Frecciarossa 1000 is the fastest train ever mass-produced in Europe with a design speed of 400 km/h. The trains will be operated at up to 360 km/h on the Italian network, further reducing travel time. Rome will be reached from Milan in 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Frecciarossa 1000 has been designed to operate across Europe, adapting quickly and effectively to different signalling systems and electrical power in each country. It will be a most innovative technological solution, ensuring safety, reliability and comfort. The Frecciarossa 1000 has an aerodynamic profile of absolute originality and effectiveness and design of great refinement and elegance, with a focus on comfort, spaciousness and maximum accessibility. It will bring together the most innovative design ideas to a careful selection of materials to offer the best performance today feasible in terms of energy savings, low vibration, sound, low environmental impact and effective Wi-Fi connectivity.

In thanking the President of the Council of Ministers Mario Monti for attending the important and significant event that kick-starts this new challenge for Italy’s FS Group in the world of high speed railways, Mauro Moretti, CEO of FS Group, said that “in addition to being an order of great economic value, the design and implementation of Frecciarossa 1000 will trigger a virtuous circle for the Italian railway industry and its supply chain, offering the opportunity for Italy to compete in world markets with a product that is second to none.”
