During its 19 September session the German Federal Cabinet adopted the draft law presented by Transport Minister Dr Peter Ramsauer, aimed at reforming the German railway sector.

According to Dr Ramsauer, “the aim of revising existing regulations is to ensure that there is fair competition on the tracks. To do this, there need to be clear rules governing the use of railway infrastructure. Access to infrastructure by operators will be improved. Incentives will be provided to improve infrastructure efficiency. The powers of the Federal Network Agency as the supervisory authority will be increased. More competition is good for quality and innovation in the railway sector. In the end it is the railway customers who will benefit.”
