On 23 November the General Assembly of the European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM) elected Gunnar Malm, Director General of the Swedish Infrastructure Manager Trafikverket, as its new President. Gunnar Malm is taking up the post from Hubert du Mesnil, President of Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) for a two-year mandate.
Gunnar Malm will be supported by three Vice-Presidents: Paul Plummer (Network Rail, UK), Luc Lallemand (Infrabel, Belgium) and Peter Kraaijeveld (ProRail, the Netherlands).
The new EIM President highlighted: “EIM’s primary goal is promoting the growth of rail traffic and the development of an open, sustainable, efficient and customer-focused railway market in Europe…”
Gunnar Malm, former special investigator for High Speed Railways and for establishment of Trafikverket has been Director General of the Swedish rail infrastructure manager since April 2010. Gunnar Malm holds a B.S. in Accounting, Investment and Financing from Stockholm University. Mr Malm has held a number of senior management positions within the transport sector such as C.E.O. for the logistics and shipping company ASG AB and Vice Director General for the SJ AB, the largest train operating company in Sweden at that time. His positions have led him to be involved in a number of international appointments including EU high-level groups. He is also member of the UIC European Management Committee.
UIC expresses its very best wishes to Gunnar Malm for his new mandate and Jean-Pierre Loubinoux emphasised: “I am convinced that we will succeed in further developing a fruitful cooperation and effective synergies between both organisations EIM and UIC in sharing a common rail system approach. UIC is willing to offer all contributions needed as the international technical platform serving all its members and among them all EIM members…”
