On 12 December just after the Press Conference following the General Assembly, an agreement for cooperation was signed between UIC and ALAMYS (the Latin American Association of Metros and Subways).
ALAMYS is a non-profit institution representing underground mass transit systems from Latin American and Iberian Peninsula countries as well as companies and associations whose activities are related to them. Its mission is to enhance technological exchange and the sharing of experience among its Members, in order to contribute to an increase in productivity, optimum use of resources and the updating of structures and management methods. Its ultimate aim is the improvement of user services as one of the main elements that determine living standards of citizens in great urban areas.
ALAMYS and UIC will basically cooperate in the field of suburban and regional passenger transport, a natural and logical complement to Intercity and High Speed Rail services throughout the UIC Forum of Commuters & Regional Train Services.
The agreement will focus on common participation in conferences and other events as well as on preparing and distributing studies and reports. Regular contact will be established for this purpose.
The document was signed by the Director General of UIC, Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, and the General Secretary of ALAMYS, Mr Aurelio Rojo. The Director General of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC, UIC member), Mr Pere Calvet was also present at the signing.
Mr Calvet is an active member of ALAMYS and Chairman of the Committee of Metros of UITP.
Mr Joseph Szabo, General Administrator of the FRA (USA) and Iñaki Barrón (Director of the UIC Passenger Department), were also present and witnesses of the event.
