Mohamed Rabie Khlie, Director General of Moroccan Railways (ONCF) and Chairman of the UIC African Region was welcomed at UIC Headquarters in Paris on 20 March.
He was assisted by Mr Said Chandid, Chief of ONCF’s Strategy Department in charge of relations with UIC and UIC African matters. The meeting was also attended by Mr Jerzy Wisniewski, UIC Director of Fundamental Values and Coordinator for UIC Africa, as well as Mr Paul Véron, Director of Communications.
The main purpose of this meeting was to review the 2012 activities of the UIC African Region and to specify and update the 2013 Action Plan in view of the 10th UIC Regional Assembly for Africa to be held in November in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia.
Regional activities planned for Africa in 2013 include an International Seminar on Railway Safety and Security (10 – 11 April in Tangier), a Technical Training Session on Rail Safety for railway staff from the region (May 2013 in Rabat) as well as a Workshop on Track Maintenance (May/June 2013 in Libreville, Gabon) and developing cooperation with the African Union in the framework of our agreement signed with the AU Commission in Addis-Ababa.
