Following the success of the first three events (2005, 2007 and 2011) held in Rome, Paris and Brussels, the International Union of Railways (UIC), in close cooperation with Russian Railways (RZD), will organise the 4th Next Station conference focused on “The relation between railways and society”, in Moscow from 17 – 18 October 2013. Next Station is a worldwide meeting place for professionals, local authorities, or any person interested in the subject of the conference.
Railway stations are usually considered from three perspectives: customer access to trains; business opportunities due to a high concentration of people every day and their central location in the city, and interaction with the city and society.
As part of this approach, the UIC Station Managers’ Global Group (SMGG) has been undertaking work since 2005. One of the most representative actions of this working group is the organization of the Next Station Conference in 2013. The conference programme includes six different themes:
- Governance and financing
- Businesses and services
- Operation and intermodality
- Design of the station, cultural area, eco-construction
- Security, civil protection
- Innovation and technology
The submission deadline for this call for papers is 22 May.
In order to be considered, applicants are invited to provide Mr Marc Guigon (guigon at uic.org) with the following:
