Over the next few years Deutsche Bahn is to invest in improving its CCTV systems as a result of defining a new concept for security. Chief executive of DB Dr Rüdiger Grube said

Security is our top priority. We are already investing a lot and we want to continue to improve our good standards.”

According to Gerd Becht, DB AG Board Member responsible for Group Security,

the new concept in video surveillance means DB is making a significant contribution to the overall architecture of the German security system”

and

although the authorities in charge of public security are not aware of any specific attacks on railway infrastructure, we have decided to take action.”

The video cameras will be installed in the country’s key stations with large volumes of passengers. The stations affected will be identified over the coming weeks in conjunction with the competent security authorities.

Over the next five years DB is to invest 40 million euros in new surveillance cameras. Over a period of 10 years, the total investment will increase to 60 million euros.

We are now expecting the government to make a significant contribution,”

added Gerd Becht.
