In the scope of the UIC Asia-Pacific Strategic Action Plan, and as a continuation of the collaboration initiated with UN ESCAP in 2011, UIC is pleased to invite UIC Asia-Pacific members in North, East and Central Asia to the seminar organised with UN ESCAP. The seminar aims to promote regional and interregional connectivity and cooperation through the further development and upgrading of the Trans-Asian Railway networks as well as dry ports to help achieve a vision of an international integrated intermodal transport and logistics system for the region. As part of the strategy towards the realisation of this long-term vision, UIC has initiated different studies, recommendations and benchmark of best practice in the European Region.
The recent re-launch of the Global Team of Experts will support the dissemination of this know-how in Europe as well as in Asia-Pacific.
For its part, UN ESCAP has undertaken a study aimed at identifying best practice and experiences relating to planning, designing, developing and operating Dry Ports, and a series of sub-regional seminars to review the ongoing and future developments of Dry Ports in the region.
As a common initiative to gain a complete view of the different modes as well as intercontinental benchmark, a first regional seminar is scheduled to be held in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 11 and 12 June 2013 for UIC Asia-Pacific members in North, East and Central Asia at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO). The nominated experts from each representative should have knowledge of policies and initiatives taking place or being considered relating to the ongoing and future development of Dry Ports.
At the workshop each delegation will have an opportunity to make presentation and statements highlighting policies, institutional framework, expected benefits and challenges being faced. For its part, UN ESCAP has invited government representatives who will also be part of the exchanges.
UIC would be grateful if you could kindly communicate the name of your representative by 30 May 2013 at the latest.
Upon receiving the nomination, UIC will send the nominated official(s) a confirmation letter with the programme of the seminar as well as an information note detailing arrangements being made concerning their participation.
UIC is looking forward to the active support of its members in this international development and we are sure that our combined efforts will further contribute to the development of efficient international transport in the region.
