Mr Najib Al-Fares has been appointed as the new Director-General of Syrian Railways (CFS). He succeeds Mr George Mokabari who has taken over the role of Adviser to the Minister of Transport for Railway Affairs.
Mr Najib Al-Fares, born in 1963, holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Aleppo (1987) and a PhD in Railway Construction from Moscow Governmental University for Transportation (1994). He studied railway projects at the General Company for Railway Construction (1994 – 2002) before taking up the position of Executive Director of Infrastructure (2002 – 2006) and Deputy Director-General (2004 – 2006) of the General Company for Railway Construction. He then became Director-General of the General Company for Railway Construction from 2006 – 2013. Since 2006 he has also been Engineering Advisor at the Syrian Engineers Syndicate in the field of railway studies.
UIC is pleased to congratulate Mr Najiib Al-fares on his appointment as the new Director-General of Syrian Railways (CFS) and to express its most sincere wishes for the successful development of Syrian Railways.
Mr Najiib Al-Fares will be welcomed in order to develop active cooperation with UIC’s Executive Board and General Assembly and as one of the leading members of the UIC Regional Assembly for the Middle-East (RAME).
