The fourth meeting for the organisation of the 9th World Congress on High Speed was held in Tokyo on 24 September.
The Congress will be held at the Tokyo International Forum, very close to Tokyo Central Station, from 7 – 10 July 2015, and, as in previous editions, is being organised by UIC together with East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
Before the meeting, the UIC team was received by Mr Satoshi Seino, Chairman of JR East and Chairman of the UIC Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, APRA. It confirmed again that UIC and JR East continue to strongly cooperate in UIC Asia-Pacific activities and in the 9th World Congress on High Speed Rail.
This was the fourth organisation meeting and it was attended by Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, UIC Director General, Michel Leboeuf, Chairman, IC&HS Committee/SNCF, Iñaki Barron, Director, UIC Passenger and High Speed Department from UIC, KellyAnne Gallagher, Assistant Vice President – Member Programmes and Services, Norman Forde, Chairman of APTA’s high speed rail programme subcommittee from APTA, Masaki Ogata, Vice-Chairman, and Hironori Tsuzimura, Deputy Director of JR East International Department.
The participants discussed the main subjects of the Congress and the main organisational issues. The main theme of the 9th World Congress on High Speed will be “High Speed Rail: Celebrate the past, Design the future” as the 50th anniversary of High Speed Rail in Japan (Shinkansen), and in the world, is a good opportunity to debate how high speed will be developed in the next 50 years, based on the 50 years’ experience in the operation of Shinkansen train services.
The 9th World Congress on High Speed Rail will follow five different parallel streams (Technology 1, Technology 2, Management, Customers and Culture & Society), and some plenary sessions. It will be divided into two parts, corresponding to the past 50 years and the next 50 years, with two respective Round Tables.
With a “History of Japan Rail” and an “Investigation of High Speed Rail in the past and the future”, UIC and JR East are preparing the congress slightly differently from previous editions.
Before the meeting, the participants inspected the venue at “Tokyo International Forum” and confirmed its conditions. APTA related to JR East the experiences of the last Congress. Meeting members were convinced that the venue is suitable for 9th World Congress on High Speed.
