Since 2009 these projects have grown and developed, particularly though the monitoring and management of projects within a specialised unit known as the External Funding Unit (EFU).

The number of EU co-funded projects where UIC participates has constantly increased in recent years. UIC has been progressively recognised as a EU professional platform and a reliable representative and contributor in the discussions and negotiations regarding technical/research issues bound to railways as well as transport in general.
