Motto of this programme is “Get your goals off the ground”

Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General of UIC and Mr Bernard Belletante, Dean of EMLYON Business School, officially signed an agreement on 11 September 2014 in Paris on the creation of the world’s first Global Executive MBA dedicated to intermodal transport. The intake is planned for February 2015.

Participants will take part in 3 week-long regional residency periods, 2 week-long face-to-face global community sessions and 3 industry specific Action learning projects – all tied together by a high quality blended learning programme.

The aims of the programme are to:

  • Help develop a critical understanding of the international rail sector and the current policy and managerial innovations underway
  • Encourage managers in the industry to foster an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Teach participants how to engage people in critical change, improve efficiency and safety and influence key stakeholders
  • Develop participants’ team leadership and people development skills
  • Give executives the tools to identify and seize opportunities to enhance effectiveness and increase customer satisfaction

Applicants should have a minimum of six years working experience and advanced professional proficiency in English.

A first-of-its-kind initiative strongly supported by UIC Chairman

UIC Chairman, Mr Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, strongly supports this initiative and underlines: “I am very confident and supportive of the work currently carried out by UIC with EMLYON to create a prestigious MBA in Rail anddefine adequate training and educational strategies and programmes for all six UIC Regions.. Transmission and education being issues that are close to my heart and which found a new resonance in the establishment of this MBA, the first one worldwide completely dedicated to the rail issue, I would be honoured to accompany its implementation, and to welcome the first graduates to our railway family.”

Hosted by EMLYON Business School

This Executive MBA, hosted by EMLYON, partner of UIC in the programme, is particularly aimed at attracting external high potential talents to the railway sector and to develop entrepreneurial spirit and strategic leadership competencies with action learning experiences dedicated to the railway sector. This Executive MBA is also designed to train those who are already in the sector – particularly with a minimum of 10 years’ experience – in order to help them develop their managerial skills following the changes that the sector has undergone in a number of countries, and to deal with competition.

Bernard Belletante, Dean of EMLYON Business School said:
“As a leading provider of executive education, our core mission is to be close to corporate organisations by producing high quality customised solutions. The Railway Global Executive MBA has been co-constructed by academic and sector experts intent on striving for excellence in the railway industry. This programme aims also to facilitate peer-to-peer learning, offering a blended model and balancing global vision with local applications.”

UIC Director General Jean-Pierre Loubinoux said:
“From its creation in 1922, UIC has always tried to share and transmit the best knowledge and practice to its members. With such a quick evolution of demographics, technical and information technology, managerial needs, customer expectations, international and multicultural context, the time has come to prepare a future generation of managers and directors to develop the railways of tomorrow. This MBA is a world premiere and answers precisely the vision of railway directors today to prepare the directors of tomorrow, in an open world, with open minds, open access, and hopefully the same open heart that has prevailed in the railway community so far.”
