The German Federal Minister of Transport Alexander Dobrindt stated on 5 September: “This is good news for rail freight transport between Germany and Poland. The European Commission is funding the upgrade of the railway line between Hoyerswerda, in Germany, and the German-Polish border, at a cost of 22 million euros.”
The Hoyerswerda-Horka-German-Polish border international rail route is being upgraded as a priority to a double-track and electrified railway line with up-to-date safety and control-command systems.
Minister Dobrindt added: “The line forms an integral part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). It links the northern ports of Bremen, Hamburg and Rotterdam with the southern regions of Poland. The upgrade of the line will improve the efficiency, safety and profitability of rail traffic.”
