A delegation from Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), the major operator of public railways in Indonesia, took the opportunity whilst on a training programme in France to visit UIC on 19 September.
The 15 engineers, welcomed by Vincent Vu, Coordinator for the UIC Asia-Pacific Region, discussed the main projects underway at UIC in the areas of passengers and stations, track and signalling, and finally freight.
The issue of standardisation was the subject of a specific discussion and KAI was invited to participate in the work of the UIC Standardisation Platform. This visit marked a significant return for KAI to UIC and signals the forthcoming 1st UIC-KAI Heavy Haul Rail Conference to be held in Jakarta from 9 – 11 December this year.
