Statistics and reporting – UIC presents latest developments at the OSJD’s annual meeting of statistics experts in Sozopol, Bulgaria.
In accordance with the invitation of BDZ Holding (Bulgarian Railways), the annual meeting of Statistics Experts within the OSJD’s Commission for Transport Policy and Strategic Development took place from 9 – 12 September 2014 in Sozopol.
The meeting was chaired by Kamaldin Mamarakhimov (Head of the Commission) and was attended by 24 delegates from 13 countries, namely heads of Economics and Statistics. On behalf of BDZ Holding, Mr Alexander Mitrev (Finance Director of BDZ Cargo) delivered the welcome speech.
The meeting addressed the most relevant issues relating to the edition of the annual Bulletin with statistical data on railway transport for 2013 and key indicators on 13 OSJD international railway corridors. In addition, attention was given to the recast of OSJD Code 305 due to liberalisation of the transport market within the EU member states. The proposal on the recast was presented by LDZ and LG. The issue relates to the OSJD member states of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
In order to promote cooperation between both OSJD and UIC, Roman Štěrba, Chairman of the UIC Statistics group, presented information on the latest developments within the group. In addition, he presented the current issue of high-speed rail statistics containing infrastructure, rolling stock, train performance and passenger traffic. The participants took the information into consideration and discussed possible introduction of high-speed statistics within OSJD’s data collection in the future.
