For some time already, CFL Cargo has been well-known for its expertise in the area of planning and implementing special transport. The shape, as well as the weight and the size of the materials determine whether special precautions need to be taken for a load. The latest challenge accepted by the Luxembourg company concerned 12 beams for a bridge in Hamburg, Germany. These special beams had to be loaded on wagons in such a way as to be stable while avoiding oversize load restrictions, if possible.
The construction of this bridge in Hamburg required 12 beams, between 27 m and 33.7 m in length, bent into two directions in order to fit the form of the curve of the bridge and to better absorb the weight that will rest on the bridge. These special beams have an external centre of gravity, which must be taken into consideration during loading so that the product will stay securely on the wagon during transport. The necessary calculations for this impressive load of 34 tonnes were made by CFL Cargo’s highly specialist team of four loading experts, who have a broad knowledge and extensive experience in this field.
