The Crans Montana Forum, held last week in Dakhla, Western Sahara, was an important global gathering of over 100 countries, heads of state, ministers and heads of major global associations, including representatives from the United Nations. UIC was also invited to participate in this conference, which specifically focused on the African context.

Africa needs to push forward regional economic integration and develop common areas for shared prosperity that will allow for the free movement of goods and people. In this respect Africa needs to invest massively in infrastructure and improve the living conditions of African citizens. It is in this area of mobility and infrastructure development that Jean-Pierre Loubinoux was able to explain the African vision that has been developed by the members of the UIC African Region and endorsed by the African Union last year.

A number of important interviews and discussions also highlighted the global role of UIC in the development of inter-regional infrastructure and sustainable development. All these issues were clearly identified as being of significant importance within the Crans Montana Forum and meetings.
