“By 2020, freight traffic on Kazakhstan territory will double”, said vice-president of JSC KTZ Express Sergei Anashkin, during a briefing at Central Communications Office for the President of Kazakhstan.

JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is implementing a number of large-scale projects for the development of infrastructure and improvement of transit and transport potential of the country.

Completion of the rail-ferry complex in the port of Kuryk will open up new opportunities for trade and economic relations in the Caspian region.

“Within the “Nurly zhol” programme the work to build infrastructure for the special “Khorgos – East Gate” economic zone continues. The complete commissioning of dry ports in commercial operation is scheduled to take place in July 2015, explained the deputy director of the branch of JSC NC KTZ Centre for development of transport logistics, Abdur-Rashid Sakenov.

With regard to the example of the Kazakh-Chinese terminal in the port of Lianyungang, the issue of the construction or leasing of external logistics terminals is under consideration. The work on the evaluation of terminal leasing and the conditions for participation in the Baltic ports with cargo handling capacity of up to 1.7 million tonnes per year is being implemented.

The issue of leasing existing terminals in Yantien seaport, dry ports at Xian and Zhengzhou (China), with a handling capacity of up to two million tonnes per year is under consideration.

“Speaking of the new traffic flows, I would note that we have a task to attract new cargo flows into Kazakhstani infrastructure with an increase in all types of transport from 17.5 million tonnes to 36 million tonnes by 2020,” he said.

JSC NC KTZ continues to implement anti-crisis projects in the transport and logistics sector, stimulating the domestic economy of Kazakhstan. Implementation of this programme will help stabilise the economic situation in the country, strengthen inter-regional cooperation, create jobs and build new competencies in Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics system.
