This was the message from President of JSC Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin at a meeting with veterans and youth activists of Kaliningrad Railway during his working trip to the most western region of Russia.
Answering the question of young professionals about the prospects of transportation to and from Kaliningrad Oblast, the president of Russian Railways said that the rail and ferry route Baltiysk-Ust-Luga is in demand and demand for ferry services is increasing.
“We are working towards establishing ferry transportation. I will take this proposal to the committee. As we are talking about the transportation of up to one hundred cars, there will be a completely different economy here (in the region).” said Vladimir Yakunin.
The president of the company also noted that market research and elaborate logistics are planned for the organisation of a high-speed passenger ferry service between Kaliningrad and Ust-Luga. According to him, the travel time from the Baltic Sea to the port of Ust-Luga could be up to nine hours.
