The workshop on how to improve interchange in cross-border traffic was jointly organised on 13 May 2015 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with the UIC Asia Pacific Regional Assembly. As a continuation of the previous technical expert meetings, this full-day workshop aimed at benchmarking the current situations of our members and at finding solutions or studies to be investigated by UIC. As one of the main routes between Asia and Europe, Ulaanbaatar Railway chose this particular topic: Challenges and best practices at improving cross-border traffic, not only on rail but also on all modes, were disseminated to 50 participants from China, India, Mongolia, Russia, Korea, France, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, either railway companies, freight forwarders, railway authorities or research institutes and the UIC ASEAN representative.

This was a decisive workshop as the conclusions were particularly important and were proposed to be included in the strategic action plan of UIC Asia-Pacific. The plan will deal with security, especially with identification of goods in international corridors due to the importance of high-value products manufactured in Asia, smoother procedures and communication at border points - not only administrative but also linked to national regulations beyond international agreements, … without forgetting the international passenger traffic dimension.
