On 10 June 2015, the day following the 2nd UIC World Conference on Railway Standardisation, Mr Yuji Nishie, Chairman of the ISO (International Standardisation Organisation) Technical Committee 269 on Railway Applications, met Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, UIC Director General, at UIC Paris Headquarters.

The aim of the visit was an important discussion on the development of a fruitful cooperation between the international standard organisation ISO and UIC.

After establishing the ‘A liaison’, the two organisations are working on the preparation of a consortium agreement to harmonise their final programme and the development of railway standards.

UIC proposed a draft document to ISO based on the positive experiences with IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), and is contributing today to the specific ISO ad hoc group in order to speed up the signing of the agreement.

The forecasted time schedule is represented by the TC 269 plenary meeting in October, preceding the UIC General Assembly of December.
