A delegation of three professors and one PhD student from Southwest Jiaotong University (University of Transport) based in Chengdu, southwest China, came to Europe on a study trip and visited UIC on 16 July 2015.
The attendees Yin Yong, PhD, associate professor, Wen Chao, PhD, assistant professor, Tao Siyu, PhD, assistant professor and Zhan Shuguang, PhD student, took stock of the organisation of UIC, and passenger activities presented by Iñaki Barrón, Director of the UIC Passenger and High Speed Department, and Marc Guigon, Senior Advisor for Passenger Transport at UIC.
The delegation was particularly interested in the operation of trains on networks as it carries out studies concerning disruption management and the rescheduling of timetables of trains in real time. They wanted to know how European railway undertakings cope with these problems of disruption (delays, accidents, operational failures…)
The cooperation between SWJTU and UIC aims to boost student exchange and participation in both academic activities and technical projects with one of the oldest Chinese engineering universities based in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, the soon-to-be largest rail transport and logistics centre in West China. A student from SWJTU, Ms Deng Junwen, has recently arrived at UIC on an internship to work on the governance of railway stations.
