The Steering Committee of the UIC Security Platform was held on 17 June, following the workshop on “Coping with terrorism on the railways: the role of human factors”, under the chairmanship of Mr Rajeeva Ranjan Verma and vice chairmanship of Mr Gerd Neubeck.
The working group on human factors will work on a training programme on security aspects for all the staff of the interested companies.
The working group on strategy and regulation will meet on 15 September in order to prepare a position paper on the difficulties of the sworn staff working on Thalys trains.
The working group on metal theft will continue its activity linked to DG MOVE initiatives, and to the Pol Primett project.
The working group on security technologies will restart its activity under the chairmanship of Czech railway infrastructure manager SZDC.
The BIRC (Border crossing – International Railway Corridors) working group will meet on 29 and 30 October in Riga and will be involved in BODEGA (BOrDErGuArd), a European research project, and in security of freight between Europe and Asia with CCTT.
The next UIC Global Security Congress will take place in Delhi from 8 – 10 December. The overarching theme will be decided soon between Indian Railways/Railway Protection Force and the UIC Security Division.
