France’s national train operator SNCF has recently rolled out the SNCF E-Book service, offering train commuters a reading library to download and read during their journey on the TER and Intercity network. This 100,000 book library offers passengers – 95% of whom already use a digital device (tablet, smartphone, etc.) during their journey – an opportunity to share new experiences, special moments, discover regional heritage, or even perhaps become future authors.
A service to help passengers read on the move, with or without a subscription
SNCF E-Book is available free-of-charge to all passengers via an application for smart phones, tablet and mobile, with or without an Internet connection.
The service offers access to 5,000 great French literary classics and extracts from all the other books in the collection.
The premium subscription service is free for the first 45 days but costs 9.90 euros a month thereafter and allows access to the full 100,000 book library. Customers may cancel or suspend their subscription but still have access to the free classics books and excerpts.
New titles each month
SNCF E-Book is aimed at passengers who wish to make the most of their journey to read or who simply enjoy reading.
SNCF will also offer a book of the month selection, and add new titles each month. A special offer each month will be linked to a newsworthy event in the literary world. A selection of 10 books of national or regional interest will be tailored to various regions where commuters catch their trains.
Enjoy the special features of the SNCF E-Book application
SNCF regularly offers services to improve its journeys. In 2014, two successful pilot projects were conducted in the Lorraine and Languedoc-Roussillon regions. More than one in three travellers reportedly took to using the service in the first month it was piloted and with research showing a 93% customer satisfaction rate, SNCF decided to extend the service to the whole TER and Intercity network.
SNCF E-Book enhances the travel experience thanks to a customised selection of titles. The application can be downloaded by subject in accordance with the passenger’s mood, and provides guidance on writing and publishing, as well as interviews with authors.
The SNCF E-Book service is available on the App Store, Google Play Store and on the Internet.
