Following the resignation of the former Board of Management of Italian Railways FS Italiane, two important appointments have been made at the head of the Italian Railway Group.
Mrs Gioia Ghezzi was appointed Chairwoman of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group on 27 November 2015.
Ing Renato Mazzoncini was appointed new CEO and Director General of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group from December 2015, succeeding Mr Michele Marco Elia. Mr Mazzoncini was also elected new Vice Chairman of UIC at the 87th General Assembly of the worldwide railway association on 1 December.

Mrs Gioia Ghezzi was born in 1962 in Milan. She has a degree in theoretical physics from the University of Milan, a Master’s degree in Business Administration with focus on Finance from London Business School. She was awarded the first London Business School Executive MBA programme grant for women.
She has more than 25 years of management and consultancy experience and worked for IBM (1989-1995), Harcourt General-Academic Press (1995-2001), Mc Kinsey (2001-2012), Willis Group Holdings (2012-2013) and Zurich Insurance Group (from 2013 until 2015). Mrs Ghezzi was Member of the Board of Management of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group from May 2014.
She was appointed Chairperson of FS Italiane Group on 27 November 2015.
Ing Renato Mazzoncini, born in 1968 in Brescia, has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan. He worked for Transystem (Ansaldo Trasporti Group) and was then CEO and Director General of Autoguidovie (Ranza group) and CEO and Chairman of Ataf Gestioni (2012-2015) and CEO of Busitalia (2012-2015), a branch of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group (2012-2015). He promoted the joint venture in Busitalia which still today binds Autoguidovie to the FS Group. As CEO of the two companies, Renato Mezzoncini worked on the development and consolidation of the national leading operator of local public transport on road and underground. In 2005 he concluded a joint venture between Autoguidovie and the French company Transdev and represented Italy on the board until 2008.
Ing Renato Mazzoncini was appointed CEO and Director General of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group from December 2015.
At UIC he was elected new UIC Vice Chairman by the General Assembly on 1 December, to succeed Michele Marco Elia until the end of his mandate (December 2016).
