The Annual Land Public Transport Symposium, to which all the UIC Asia-Pacific members were kindly invited by His Excellency Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar, Chairman, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), successfully took place on 18 November 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The SPAD LPT Symposium was conducted with a Gala Dinner and Industry Awards on 17 November was followed by a conference held under the theme “Journey into the Future: Building People Centric Mobility” on 18 November 2015.
In the past year, the land public transport ecosystem in Malaysia and around the region has continued to invest and shape transport solutions of this century to meet diverse needs of future mobility. It is faced with great challenges, such as a changing climate, a rapidly growing population, scarcity of resources – but also faces an opportunity to redesign and build people-centric connectivity.
Starting with the Welcome Speech of His Excellency Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Syed Hamid, Chairman, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), the conference continued with the Session 1 on “Driving Mobility in Cities of the Future: The Social and Economic Impact of People Centric Mobility” with the presence of His Excellency Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Syed Hamid, Chairman, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General, International Union of Railways (France), Datin Paduka Dr Dahlia Rosly, Director General, Federal Department of Town & Country Planning Peninsular Malaysia, Mr Karl Fjellstrom, Regional Director, East & Southeast Asia, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (China) and moderated by Mrs Malik Ali, CEO/Founder, BFM Radio.
By 2050, around 70% of the world population will be city dwellers and as mentioned by Mr Loubinoux during his presentation, 6% of GDP urban investments will be necessary to face this situation. So during this full-day conference, many experiences, questions and ideas were shared by almost 600 participants from all over the world to find a way to meet the challenge.
