The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) will kick off the New Year with the demolition of the Tuolumne Street Bridge in Downtown Fresno. This will make way for construction of a new, higher bridge that will accommodate the high-speed rail line and allow for two-way traffic.

Starting Monday, January 4, 2016, Tuolumne Street between F Street and Van Ness Avenue will be closed to through traffic for approximately 10 to 12 months to allow for work that will occur over Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

The work is being done by design-build contractor, Tutor Perini/Zachry/Parsons as part of Construction Package 1, the first 29-mile stretch of high-speed rail between Avenue 17 in Madera County to East American Avenue in Fresno County. This work will be done by five certified small businesses: J. Kroeker, Inc., American Crane Rental, Inc., Parrish Hansen Engineering, Oliveira Fence, Inc., and Tommy’s Water Trucks.

As part of the continued progress of the high-speed rail program, a number of other construction projects will also begin in the Fresno area in early 2016, including several that will have traffic impacts to make way for the new rail line.
