Adif is to carry out work to upgrade and improve Madrid’s Chamartín railway station at a total cost of around 1.3 million euros (including VAT). The work consists in building a new access to the front of the station, fitting a new lighting system in the hall, which will bring natural light into the station interior, as well as installing mechanical ventilation.

The main feature of this refurbishment programme – with a budget proposal of around 1.1 million euros (including VAT), and a six-month deadline for completion – consists in fitting new lights in the hall equipped with vents (devices to control the temperature and evacuate smoke).

The glazed ventilators will be vertically installed and consist of five panels, each electrically operated and centrally managed under the station’s fire detection system.

In addition, Adif is planning to build a new entry at the front of the station, to improve the existing access connecting the hall to the outside forecourt. This change will allow more natural light to flow into the hall.

This latter construction, which has a four-month deadline for completion, and is estimated to cost 208,100 euros (including VAT), involves creating an access featuring three entries with automatic double doors, in order to create a box that acts as a filter between the inside and outside space. This change will be both aesthetically enhancing as well as improve the functional use of the space.

This initiative, which is under the responsibility of the company Cobra, Instalaciones y Servicios, is a continuation of the efforts started last year to improve the station’s overall image with the work on the new entrance.
