In 2016 the eighth “Berner Tage” conference will continue the tradition of examining the most recent developments in international rail transport law. It will take place in the CIT headquarters building in Bern on 3 & 4 March 2016.
The various structures for working together and legal relationships in international freight and passenger traffic will form the core topics for the 2016 “Berner Tage”. These topics will be examined both in theory and practice. A thorough analysis of the most recent developments in the regulatory regime defined by COTIF and European law will also be presented.
A panel discussion to be held on the morning of 4 March will conclude the event. It will be devoted to transport law questions relating to new structures for working together in Passenger and Freight traffic. In addition to an introductory presentation by the CIT General Secretariat, there will be contributions from representatives of DB Fernverkehr, SNCF Voyages, PKP Cargo and Rail Cargo Austria. The essential question will be the extent to which CIT documentation meets the needs of freight and passenger traffic in practice. The answer to this question will in turn play an important role for the development and updating of CIT documentation in accordance with the principle of being ‘derived from practice for use in practice’.
The 2016 “Berner Tage” is primarily addressed to lawyers working for CIT members and to other interested parties. Its objective is to shed light on the variety of legal relationships in passenger and freight traffic from different legal standpoints. Right from the beginning the event will provide a unique opportunity to exchange views and experiences as well as to network with international experts.
Before the “Berner Tage” (on 3 March in the morning), a training session for CIT members’ new staff will be held for the first time. Three modules will cover the fundamentals and principles of international and European law affecting passenger and freight traffic as well as the use of infrastructure and rolling stock. The event will close with questions and a general discussion with the speakers.
This training session is exclusively reserved for CIT members and will be provided free of charge by the CIT General Secretariat.
