Iran: Sectioning of Tracks and Automation of Rail Traffic Control on the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI)

Mr. Maziar Yazdani, Director General of the Communications and Signaling Department of RAI announced the completion and operation of the sectioning and automatic system project for rail traffic on the Tehran-Mashad route.

Maziar Yazdani, having mentioned that these systems and facilities were designed to promote safety and higher speeds, the enhancement of the efficiency of rail transport and the increase in demand, which are the constant concern of officials, experts, and specialists at RAI, stated:

“Sectioning of tracks is one of the ways of increasing the capacity of the rail transport network, using this system which has been designed and is operated by the skilful hands of Iranian experts, based now for the first time on the latest up-to-date world standards, on the Tehran-Mashad route with its 50 stations and 926 km of track.”
He added, “The capacity of the Tehran-Mashad route will be increased by 3 compared with the current level, train dispatching will be reduced from 20 minutes to 7 minutes, and the daily commuting of 200 train sets will be possible on this route by operating this network. In this way passenger transport, local and international carriage and transit of goods will be increased.”
Mr Yazdani also mentioned that the cost of this project was reduced by up to 50% by using Iranian experts rather than foreign contractors, in addition to the abundant technical and safety benefits.
