The first “Transport of the Future” youth competition is an initiative by the Nicholas II Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT University – an affiliate member of UIC), with the support of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport as well as that of the Federal Railway Agency, Federal Air Transport Agency and Federal Sea and Inland Water Transport Agency, and in cooperation with the non-profit organisation “Association of Transport Universities”. The competition is also supported by Russian Railways (RZD) as one of the event’s main partners.
As a pilot project, the Organising Committee has decided to open the 2015-2016 competition to foreign entrants for works on rail transport.
The Committee therefore invites school and high school pupils aged between 11 and 19 years inclusive, excluding students at university or in higher education, to participate in the rail transport competition.
The competition comprises two categories:
- Working models and patterns (prototypes, layouts, mock-ups) for proposed new machinery or processes related to transport (category name: “Working models and patterns”);
- Written projects on topics concerning the improvement of transport equipment and technology through innovation (category name: “Project works”).
The competition is divided into ten nominations:
(1) First category: “Working models and patterns”:
- Models of promising vehicles and their components;
- Models and patterns of transport infrastructure;
- Technological transportation support tools (automation, signalling, dispatching, scheduling, etc.).
(2) Second category: “Project works”:
- Fundamentally new transport systems;
- Urban and regional transport and transportation;
- New transport vehicles;
- Resource saving for transport;
- Power engineering and electrical engineering;
- Transport automation, telemechanics (remote control engineering), robotics and intelligent systems;
- Transport and quality of life (well-being), social and economic aspects of the transport industry.
Both individuals and teams may participate in the competition. Team members should all be in the same age category (11 to 15 years and 16 to 19 years).
The projects will be assessed by a jury comprising international members.
Candidates wishing to take part in the first edition should submit their entry to the Central Jury by e-mail (transport.future at gmail.com) by 15 April.
The official ceremony for selecting winners and awardees will be held at the MIIT University Gymnasium (secondary school) in Moscow on 12 and 13 May 2016. The winners will be awarded diplomas and certificates. Practical details regarding participation in the award ceremony should be discussed directly with the Organising Committee.
Entries may be submitted in Russian or English.
If you do not have time to apply for the first edition, remember that the next edition will open in September 2016!
