The 21st UIC Asia Pacific Regional Assembly successfully took place on 10 May 2016 in Beijing, China, and was kindly hosted by NRA (National Railway Administration of P.R. China) and CRC (China Railway Corporation).
The assembly was welcomed by Mr WANG Jiayu, Deputy Director General, NRA and Mr. HE Huawu, Chief Engineer, CRC and chaired by Mr SEINO Satoshi, Chairman of East Japan Railway Company. This statutory meeting dealt with the numerous regional and multiregional actions undertaken in 2015 and in 2016. This edition was also the occasion for the work of the UIC Headquarters to be promoted by Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General, as well as by the different representative offices in Kuala Lumpur, Moscow and Melbourne.
Coordinated by Mr Vincent Vu, Director of Institutional Relations and Coordinator of UIC Asia-Pacific, one of the achievements of the Beijing Assembly was the dissemination of the “Asia-Pacific Railways Vision 2050” and the “Asia Pacific Strategic Action Plan 2016-2019” which will guide the region and set out its vision. So based on this vision, more than 30 new regional and multi-regional projects have been proposed for 2017 and the Asia Pacific members will be asked to select few of them at the next Regional Assembly in India in November 2016, to be undertaken in 2017.
The Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly also discussed the renewal of Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship for 2017-2019 which will be fixed at the end of the year and approved by the General Assembly in December 2016 in Saint-Petersburg.
The next UIC Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly is scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India, on 8 November 2016.
