Správa železniční dopravní cesty (the Railway Infrastructure Administration – SZDC) has completed track reconstruction on line sections between Brno-Maloměřice – Brno-Královo Pole and Brno-Královo Pole – Kuřim. The main advantage of both constructions is an increase in line speed and safety as well as travel comfort.

The railway lines on both these sections were built in the years 1938 – 1953, they were electrified in the 1960s and 1970s and equipped with contemporary safety and signalling equipment. The last continuous reconstruction of railway superstructure was carried out in 1977.

”The result of track reconstruction on the railway lines in Brno will please railway transport passengers. Travelling by train on the Maloměřice – Královo Pole and Královo Pole – Kuřim line sections is now more comfortable, faster and safe,” said Mr Pavel Surý, Director General of SZDC.

Work also included reconstruction of platforms, bridges and culverts, tunnels, the catenary, safety and communication equipment and power supply.
Constructions correspond to the global objectives of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 1 which is an improvement of railway transport of the Trans-European transport network TEN-T. The project will result in increasing the current line speed and transport availability.

The total estimated cost of the construction designated as Reconstruction of Track No 2 Brno-Maloměřice – Brno-Královo Pole amounted to 947,808,524 CZK (VAT excluded).
