This week’s “Environment Week”, hosted by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU) and German Chancellor Joachim Gauck, will see Deutsche Bahn present its new train simulator app and the company’s wider efforts in favour of climate protection and noise control.

By driving efficiently, a train driver can reduce the electricity needed to power the train by up to 10 per cent. Now, for the first time, DB is offering the public a fun way to play at being a train driver by launching its very own train simulation app. The “DB Zug Simulator” app gives the user a feel for how to use energy efficiently, accelerate and brake, and is available free from the App Store and Google Play. The aim of the game is to arrive at one’s (virtual) destination on time whilst consuming as little energy as possible. The app has already been downloaded over 55,000 times. The game is based on real train data and on the programme DB has used for over 10 years to train its own drivers to drive energy-efficiently.
