Careers website Plotr has launched an online portal and game, A Better Connected Future – Transport Careers, so 11-24-year-olds can find out what it’s really like to work in the transport industry.

The Plotr virtual world of transport careers – a partnership between Network Rail, Transport for London, HS2, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, the National Skills Academy for Rail and Young Rail Professionals – showcases opportunities across the industry.

The website particularly promotes job roles for which there are skills shortages, so young people can plan ahead and consider studying for them.

On the website there are videos from people working in the industry giving an insight into their jobs, plus hints and tips for how to get started. It’s also easy to search for courses, work experience, apprenticeships and entry-level jobs.

“We want this virtual world to excite and inspire young people to want to consider jobs in transport and infrastructure.
The Plotr world brings to life the huge range of exciting opportunities that the transport industry has to offer and we hope it will change the perception that the industry doesn’t have careers that young people, and especially young women, will find appealing. We can offer a very exciting future that is so important to the country’s economic growth,” said Linsey Perry, Network Rail.
