On 15 July in Belgrade, Serbia, RZD International, a subsidiary of RZD, and the Serbian Railway Infrastructure Company signed an addendum to the main contract for the construction and reconstruction of the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section of the Belgrade – Budapest railway line.
The document was signed by the CEO of RZD International, Sergei Pavlov, and by Duchan Garibovitch for and on behalf of the CEO of the Serbian Railway Infrastructure Company, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlović and of the Senior Vice-President of RZD, Alexander Misharin.
Under this agreement, RZD International will construct a twin-track viaduct over the Danube flood plain (two bridges each approximately three kilometres long) as well as a 2.2 km two-track tunnel in Čortanovci. Cutting-edge technology will be used on these construction projects, to build the tunnel and to consolidate the ground to avoid the risk of landslides. To speed up construction, work will be carried out at several points simultaneously.
Completion of this project will make it possible to increase the flow of traffic on this section of the railway and to enable passenger trains to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.
In addition, the agreement provides for the study of a project for the construction of a centralized train traffic control centre (DTSUP) in Serbia, the setting up of which the parties agreed in October 2015 during the visit to Moscow of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Alexander Vučić. The construction of the DTSUP in Belgrade will make it possible to move on from the current rail traffic management practice dealing with situations “as they arise”, to a system of preventive traffic control, making it possible to anticipate situations on the lines, taking into account all risk factors.
