It is with great sadness that ERRAC chair Professor Andy Doherty, vice chair Nicholas Castres-Saint-Martin, the ERRAC secretariat and all the ERRAC stakeholders announce the sad loss of our distinguished colleague and ERRAC vice-chair Professor Manuel Pereira.
He had been suffering from an ongoing series of connected health problems and died today (25th July) in his home town of Lisbon.
Manuel represented the academic community within ERRAC and demonstrated a flair for rail and an understanding of the route the rail sector needed to take. He was always eager to help solve problems in a positive and creative way and did so with calm, measured wisdom that the ERRAC stakeholders greatly appreciated.
ERRAC will not be the same without Manuel.
ERRAC Chair Professor Doherty commented:
I would like to extend the condolences of all Manuel’s friends within the ERRAC community to his family. His was a significant and truly inspirational contribution to the innovation of the railway system of tomorrow and his vision and humility will be sadly and sorely missed.
UIC Director General Jean-Pierre Loubinoux said:
The Railway family is losing a colleague and a friend. We all want to thank Manuel for his longstanding contribution to our industry, and wish him farewell among the stars.
