The UIMC (International Union of Railway Medical Services) World congress will be held in Vienna at ÖBB headquarters from 28 – 30 September 2016. The annual congress usually brings together directors of railway medical services as well as medical advisors of railway companies and national railway administrations.
Over the course of three days, participants from all over the world will address topics related to health and well-being as well as to interoperability of aptitude assessment of railway staff.
The congress will start with an introduction made by the Federal Austrian Railways ÖBB and its occupational health service Wellcon. On the second day, the congress will visit the new operations centre in Vienna and will discuss the impact of digitalisation on work conditions.
The third day will give the floor to the annual UIMC general assembly meeting. Beside the scientific programme and site visits, opportunities will be given to participants to share ideas and practical knowledge in small groups.
UIMC was founded in 1949 and has been constituted as an autonomous special group to UIC in 1995. Members of the UIMC are organisations or railways that maintain a medical service and consequently are able to send medical officers to the annual general assemblies as delegates. Not only the world’s railways but also the entire field of transport health, including specialist areas, benefit from the scientific findings and statistical data established by the UIMC. Representatives of other medical organisations related to railway medicine who are not members of UIMC are cordially invited. Participation fee for non-members is 600 €.
