ITK Industry Expert Meeting on Modern Software Engineering at InnoTrans Berlin

Just before opening the world’s greatest trade fair for railway transport InnoTrans in Berlin ITK Engineering, a fast growing and innovative technology enterprise, launched its second Industry Expert Meeting for software engineering addressing rail transport.

How to benefit from other industries, like aerospace or automotive was the inspiring theme. This attracted high-ranking experts and managers from railway industry and operators and bodies.

Renowned speakers from automotive and aerospace as well as railways together with ITK’s own experts explained effective methodologies for software engineering to highlight this industry crossover.

The convention started with concise requirements engineering, effectively resulting in model-based software development e.g. demonstrated by autonomous vehicles. The second part focussed on safety and security design, its growing importance as well as its challenging verification and validation.

UIC director Dr Marc Antoni emphasised the mutual relationship between safety and security in railways and provided the outcome of the UIC leaded ARGUS project concerning cyber-attacks. Interdisciplinary based, a security management system will provide a set of mitigation measures and data base on threats and security weakness, supported by establishing a specific standard.
