The 22nd UIC Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly (APRA), in conjunction with the 15th UIC Asia Pacific Management Committee and the 4th UIC Asia-Pacific Control Command and Signalling (CCS) Workshop, hosted by Indian Railways, successfully took place on 8 November 2016 in New Delhi, India. Chaired by Satoshi Seino, Chairman of JR East and Chairman of the APRA, welcomed by A. K. Mital, Chairman of Indian Railways, Damdinsuren Jigjidnyamaa, President of Ulaanbaatar Railway and Vice-Chairman of the APRA, and Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General of UIC, the meeting was focused on the nomination of the Chairman and Vice Chairmen of the region and the activities and budget of 2017.
For 2017-2018, the members approved, as the Chairman of the region, the nomination of Oleg Belozerov, Chairman of Russian Railways and as Vice Chairmen, the nomination of Kanat Alpysbayev, Chairman of Kazakhstan Railways and Lu Dongfu, Chairman of China Railway. On behalf of all the APRA members, Mr Loubinoux thanked Mr Seino for his four-year mandate as Chairman of the region and his involvement in UIC Asia-Pacific activities.
An increasing number of proposals have been made for 2017 and a selection has been decided within a regional budget that is limited but in line with the 2016 – 2019 Strategic Action Plan and the Vision 2050.
At the end of the APRA, the results of the 2nd UIC Asia-Pacific Photo Contest were delivered. In the Company category, JR East received First Prize and Vietnam Railways Second Prize. In the Individuals category, John Su from Taiwan High-Speed Rail Company (THSRC) received First Prize, Derek Sun from THSRC, Second Prize and Gary Liang from THSRC, Third Prize. Following this photo contest, the 2017 UIC Asia-Pacific calendar was published with the 12 most voted for photos.
Mr Satoshi Seino closed the 22nd UIC Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, thanking all the members and UIC staff for their constant support during his chairmanship.
