Beginning Nov. 7, 2016, Amtrak® Pacific Surfliner® passengers will enjoy even more travel options thanks to the addition of two new daily trains – an early-morning train from San Diego to Los Angeles and an evening train from Los Angeles to San Diego.
The new northbound Pacific Surfliner will depart San Diego at 4 a.m. on weekdays and 4:40 a.m. on weekends, arriving in Los Angeles at 7:03 a.m. on weekdays and 7:30 a.m. on weekends. After arriving in Los Angeles, the train will continue north, providing passengers from San Diego and Orange counties with an earlier “one seat ride” to popular destinations including Burbank Airport, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
The new southbound Pacific Surfliner will depart Los Angeles at 8:25 p.m., filling an almost three-hour gap in the existing schedule and providing additional time to enjoy evening activities in Los Angeles or Orange County before heading south to San Diego.
“These two new trains provide greatly expanded possibilities for business and leisure travel between San Diego, Los Angeles, and beyond,” said LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency Chairman David Golonski. “We appreciate the support of the state of California, Amtrak, BNSF Railway, and our local member agencies in launching these additional trains, which mark the first expansion of Pacific Surfliner service in 14 years.”
The Pacific Surfliner is funded by the state of California through the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and is operated by Amtrak under a contract with the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency.
All Pacific Surfliner trains feature comfortable, reclining seats with power outlets, Wi-Fi, bike and luggage racks, and access to a Café car featuring fresh food, snacks and beverages, including wine, cocktails and local craft beer. Passengers can also choose to upgrade to Business Class for an additional fee to receive a guaranteed seat, additional legroom, complimentary snacks and beverages, and other perks.
