On 8 June, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping a videoconference was held on “Kazakhstan-China-Transit Bridge of Eurasia” in the framework of the official visit of the governmental delegation of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan.
During the videoconference, the Heads of State launched a new container service in the Eurasian space - from the Kazakh-Chinese Lianyungang Terminal on the one hand, and Dry Port of the Special Economic Zone “Khorgos - Eastern Gateway” on the other.
The formation of the Eurasian transit bridge by developing a logistics infrastructure at key points of origin and distribution of cargo flows - in the port of Lianyungang and SEZ “Khorgos - Eastern Gateway” - is a practical example of the interface between the programs of the Leaders of two countries.
Today, container trains are launched from the port of Lianyungang to Central Asia and Istanbul via Kazakhstan. For the first time the container service on the routes Tilburg (Netherlands) - Chengdu (PRC) and Tashkent - Chengdu has been operated using the facilities of Kazakhstan’s Altynkol station.
An important phase in the implementation of the Cooperation Programs of the Heads of State is the entry of Chinese investors into the SEZ “Khorgos - Eastern Gateway” project.
It should be pointed out that the involvement of Chinese investors - COSCO Shipping Company and Lianyungang Port in the SEZ “Khorgos - Eastern Gateway” project provided the possibility of transcontinental transportation of COSCO Shipping sea containers by land route in the direction of Lianyungang - Central Asia using the Kazakhstan transport and logistics infrastructure.
Recall that on 15 May 2017 in Beijing, within the framework of the “One Belt, One Road” forum a trilateral agreement was signed between JSC NC “KTZ”, Lianyungang and COSCO Shipping on the joint development of the Dry Port “KTZE-Khorgos Gateway” located in SEZ “Khorgos-Eastern Gateway”.
