The session was held under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin on the Russian side and the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz on the Cuban side.

In the run-up to the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission, negotiations were also held between the President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and Mr. Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz. The parties discussed Russian-Cuban cooperation in the field of railway transport.

It is planned that the contract itself, which provides for the repair of railway lines of varying complexity, the reconstruction of artificial structures and the supply of construction, railway and track equipment, will be concluded before the end of 2017 after the parties finalise the agreement’s separate aspects.

A Memorandum of Strategic Partnership between Russian Railways and the Cuban Railways Union was also signed on the margins of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission.

The Memorandum was signed by Alexander Misharin, First Vice President of Russian Railways, and Mr. Del Toro Quesada, Deputy Managing Director of the Union of Railways “Cuban Railways.”
