Deutsche Bahn AG as chair of the UIC security platform and UIC are organising the next UIC Security Congress, which will be held in Potsdam (Germany) at the DB Akademie from 29 November – 1 December 2017.

Following on from last year’s congress held in Helsinki under the theme of “Security of Stations”, this year’s 13th edition will be dedicated to the security of rail freight transport. It will provide a unique opportunity for the partners of the entire logistic chain to exchange on the challenges of door-to-door security.

The Congress will be organised around four technical sessions, which will address the following topics:

  • The first technical session will focus on threats and concerns against freight. Speakers from different railway companies will give an overview about the challenges, modus operandis, the affected areas and vulnerabilities. Speakers are inter alia: Gerd Kowanz (DB Cargo AG), Dora Mezek Kukec (Slovenske železnice, d.o.o.)
  • The second technical session will focus on answers along the logistic chain regarding to the introduced challenges. Speakers from different transport sectors will give an overview about several solutions and their experiences. Speakers are inter alia: Dr. Markus Ksoll (Deutsche Bahn AG – in coordination), Sergey Medvedev (FSE SRT of Russia)
  • The cooperation with third parties is fundamental to increase the security of rail freight. Therefore, the third technical session deals with the responsibility of different actors to work together to make rail freight more secure. Speakers are inter alia: Karl-Heinz Weidner (Federal police department), Bert Westland (RAILPOL), Vyara Filipova (World Customs Organisation)
  • In addition to the collaboration with third parties it is also necessary to exchange information in a secure way as well as to take into account of the results of research projects. The speakers within the fourth technical session will present legal aspects of data exchange, the security hub, a terrorist attacks database as well as possibilities for intelligent wagons. Speakers are inter alia: Laurent Maurice (Emis Conseil), Bruno de Rosa (UIC Security Division)

The role of the transcontinental freight corridors and the ways to improve their security will also be the focus of this year’s congress.

We would like to stress the importance of the issues under discussions during the event, particularly in today’s context and can assure you that the high-level presentations will be very useful for the attendees.
