In October 2017, Marc Guigon was appointed Director of the UIC Passenger Department, whose position was officially confirmed at the UIC General Assembly in December 2017.
Marc Guigon was born in 1956. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers, he started work at French National Railways (SNCF) in 1981, where he held various responsibilities including management of maintenance of rolling stock workshops, management of the Research Centre for Freight Activities including a large number of international projects, responsible for SNCF’s Freight Strategies. He then joined the French Interministerial Delegation of Spatial Planning (DATAR) as Advisor of the Prime Minister for the development of all modes of transport in France. In this position he was also responsible for relationships between a French Regional Council and the French Central Government for all activities concerning regional development such as industry, employment, culture, agriculture, city development… He also initiated bilateral cooperation between French and Chinese governments in the fields of urban-rural integration, decentralised cooperation, high level training programmes.
In June 2012, Marc Guigon was appointed Senior Advisor for Passenger Transport of UIC.
In this position he was mainly managing projects concerning railway stations and passenger distribution.
He was also involved in Chinese issues and participated in a number of high level projects for Chinese development.
