The connecting line between South Xinjiang Railway and Lanzhou-Urumqi High Speed Rail was put into operation on 30 November 2017.

Prior to that, five pairs of express trains used to run from Urumqi to South Xinjiang Railway by way of Turpan Station of Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway. Since then, these trains have run on Lanzhou-Urumqi HSR and then South Xinjiang Railway. Although no high-speed railway has yet been built in South Xinjiang, passengers of all ethnic groups could take conventional-speed trains to experience one hour ‘HSR time’ on the Urumqi-Turpan Section of Lanzhou-Urumqi HSR.
