By the time that athletes from Team Germany and the German Paralympic team start competing for Olympic and Paralympic medals in PyeongChang in South Korea on February 9, the logistics experts at DB Schenker will have completed their sterling preparatory work for the tournaments. It will be thanks to them that some 5,000 kilograms of clothes and all manner of sports gear, from little pucks to long racing skis, are ready and waiting on-site whenever needed.
DB SCHENKERsportsevents is in charge of shipping all of the equipment necessary for the German House, the meeting point for sports, media, political, and business figures in South Korea. Schenker’s experts are handling the transportation of no less than 48 TEUs by sea, while a further 27 metric tons are going by plane.
Their work also includes the transportation of some 390 travel bags, each one containing the athletes’ official clothing, along with training and competition material used by certain sporting associations, the office supplies needed by the delegation managers, physiotherapists’ equipment, and the team’s medical supplies. The logistics experts started working on the initial plans eighteen months ago.
DB Schenker has a double role in South Korea: Official partner of Germany’s PyeongChang 2018 team and exclusive logistics partner of the German House at PyeongChang 2018. Schenker Deutschland AG is in charge of every aspect of logistics management for this location, the venue for exclusive meetings featuring personalities from the world of sports, media, politics, and business. As official service providers for a number of different countries’ Olympics committees, DB Schenker’s national subsidiaries are also handling the full range of transportation requirements regarding the equipment of the teams from Austria, Switzerland, Norway, and Belgium.
As the long-time official service partner of the International Paralympic Committee, the DB SCHENKERsportsevents crew will also be involved in the 2018 Paralympic Games immediately after the Winter Games, offering their international logistics, freight forwarding and customs services.
The XXIII Olympic Winter Games will take place February 9-25, 2018 in the South Korean town of PyeongChang.
