On 10 July, Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) opened a repaired passenger building at Litoměřice horní nádraží (Litoměřice Upper Station) by cutting the opening ribbon. The building was extensively reconstructed in conjunction with an already completed major reconstruction of the trackage. This finalised a complete modernisation of the whole railway station and its immediate surroundings.
“This investment included one of the most important repairs carried out by SŽDC in the Ústí nad Labem Region, thus fulfilling long-term requirements of Litoměřice City and the Ústí nad Labem Region as a transport ordering entity. The repaired building contributes to a considerable travelling culture improvement in regional transport on an important railway connection of Litoměřice with Lovosice and Česká Lípa. Total repair costs amounted to CZK 11.5 million”, said Mr Tomáš Drmola, Deputy Director General of SŽDC for Asset Management. Construction works took a whole year and ended this June.
The passenger building is situated at the boundary of a listed building zone; that is why SŽDC cooperated closely with Litoměřice City during repairs iorder to create a pleasant a place as possible for almost 1,900 passengers passing daily through Litoměřice horní nádraží. Complex repairs of the building dating from 1898 included a renovation of the historical facade, an exchange of hole fillings and a restoration of the platform roofing and entrance stairs. The dispatching premises interior was changed considerably including new lavatories for the public. Works also included an exchange of paving and surfaces, lighting and the information and orientation system. The station has of course full barrier-free access thanks to repairs of the dispatching hall layout and the lavatories for handicapped passengers with the option to use the Euro key.
The repaired passenger building includes a dispatching hall with premises for the sale of travel documents, public lavatories and a restaurant; SŽDC train dispatchers have their workplace here as well. The overhead floors are occupied by flats with tenants. Litoměřice City placed an information panel with an overview of local cultural events in the hall. Commercial premises adjoining the dispatching hall are still waiting for occupants as a suitable partner has not been found yet. These could be used e.g. for selling the daily press or small refreshments.
This year, SŽDC also finished repairs on facades of other passenger buildings in Ústí nad Labem Region, namely at Velké Březno and Mlýny railway stations. At the same time, repairs of passenger buildings at Štětí and Dolní Žleb should start as well as another important passenger building at Litoměřice město stop on the railway line 072 in connection to the construction of a parking house for bicycle storage.
