On the morning of 13 October, the installation of the last girder of Heilongjiang Bridge, an important part of the China-Russia Railway Tongjiang Bridge, was completed, marking the completion of the Chinese part of the bridge.
The opening ceremony for the construction of the China-Russia Railway Tongjiang Bridge Project was held on 26 February 2014 in Tongjiang and Nizhneleninskoye of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in Russia, respectively. The project, as a key construction project of China according to the Medium and Long-term Railway Network Planning (Adjustment in 2008), is located on Tongjiang’s Hayu Island, connecting with Nizhneleninskoye in Russia. It is the first cross-river railway bridge in Heilongjiang Province connecting with Russia, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 21 million tons. The total length of the railway bridge is 7193.71m. The main bridge of the cross-river bridge spans 2215.02m, with 1886.45m in China, 328.57m in Russia, and the approach span is 4978.69m.
The China-Russia Railway Tongjiang Bridge is the first cross-border gauntleted-track railway bridge in China, capable of adapting to the different track gauges in China and Russia. During the construction of the bridge, the construction department overcame difficulties such as solid ice, permafrost and sand gushing, innovated the processing technologies of anti-corrosion coating, high-strength bolt construction and deep-water cofferdam construction and dredging, ensuring the safety of the bridge construction.
After the China-Russia Railway Tongjiang Bridge is constructed and put into operation, it will connect the railways in China with the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Far East Region of Russia by adding a new international major transportation corridor connecting to Russia and Europe. It will play a significant role in boosting the development of Northeast China in the new year, helping in-depth integration and co-construction of the Belt and Road, and building the relationship of opening-up and cooperation.
